A Place Called Braverly…
is a charge for the women of God to live brave, dream bravely, and influence bravery because the Father created them to be women of courage.
Too often, women allow shame, lies, and doubts to hold them captive to fear, forgetting that the Father’s design—for women to live with bold purpose and daring dreams. Every day, the café and sewing center Braverly seeks to empower and train women from oppressed people groups on the Thailand/Myanmar border, but its heartbeat extends well beyond Mae Sot. Inspired by the work being done within Braverly’s walls, A Place Called Braverly is filled with the vulnerable stories of two missionaries: Kate Berkey and Kristy Mikel.
A Place Called Braverly journeys through Scripture as well as Kate Berkey and Kristy Mikel’s personal stories to discover what it looks like to live bravely—saying yes in the everyday, dreaming beyond limits, and influencing and encouraging bravery in others as followers of Jesus. Within the pages of A Place Called Braverly, readers will interact with creative writing pieces, artwork created by women from Braverly, and unique ways of connecting with the Father. In the end, Berkey and Mikel hope to demonstrate how this heartbeat is more than just the mission of a ministry in Thailand. It is the battle cry for all women.

Meet
Kate and Kristy
Kate Berkey is a writer and missionary in Chicago, Illinois, where she serves refugee and immigrant families on the north side of the city. She has worked in ministry and discipled other believers for nearly ten years and has served in six countries in short and long-term missions. As a writer, she has published numerous devotionals and articles for publications around the United States. Kate is all about family and deeply desires to help others find belonging in the family of the Kingdom of God. More than anything else, she longs to walk women home to the heart of the Father—their creator and sustainer. Kate is a lover of being on the water, running on Lakefront Trail, and gathering dear friends around the table.
Kristy Mikel is the co-director of Braverly, a ministry in Mae Sot, Thailand, where she has lived and served since 2016. Prior to moving to Thailand, Kristy spent over sixteen years in ministry and has served in seventeen different nations through short-term and long-term missions. As she partnered with the discipleship efforts of the local church, discipled women in a red-light district in Kenya, and became a learner of new cultures, Kristy cultivated a heart for the nations and a passion for seeing that same heart cultivated in others. Her experiences, both in the US and abroad, have given her unique perspectives, insights, and stories as she walks alongside women of all ages in their journey to the Father. Kristy is a daughter, sister, missionary, and carries a deep passion for empowering women worldwide. She’s a fierce lover of dark chocolate, outdoor adventures, and celebrating the uniqueness of every culture!

Praise for A Place Called Braverly
I am always looking for people to live courageously–no matter how imperfect their courage might be. In Kristy and Kate, I see two people who lead by example, choosing to “live brave, dream bravely, and influence bravery.” I have been to Braverly in Mae Sot, Thailand, and I have seen the courageous women who inspired all of this. There’s nothing quite like a group of women who find the bravery they need to step into their divine callings as daughters of God. In A Place Called Braverly, you will meet this courage head on and will find the strength you need to choose bravery every day.
